Week 4: International Framework of Sustainable Development
Salam all, for week 4 we learned about International Framework of Sustainable Matter. It all started way back in 1972 with the UN Conference in Stockholm. Country began realizing that environmental issues needed serious attention. Since then, there's been a chain of major conferences and agreements. One event that really stood up to me was how the Kyoto Protocol tried to make countries cut down on greenhouse gases. They even came out with carbon trading. But not all the countries agreed, especially U.S, which didn't sign it under President Bush.
The Global Divide: Developed vs Developing Countries
Not all countries are on the same page because they don't all have the same resources or challenges.
Developed Countries: had the money and power, but also caused most of the damage to environment
Developing Countries: were often told to "go green" but didn't have enough money or tech to do it, but still they started stepping up and pushing back in negotiations
SEJAHTERA
Malaysia has its own local version of sustainable development called SEJAHTERA. It's not just about the environment, but about being whole as a person and society. The word "sejahtera" itself means peace, safety, and prosperity. But more than that, it's tied to Islamic values, like justice, harmony, and connection with God. It's a reminder that true wellbeing isn't just what we see outside, but also what we feel and believe inside.

I like how SEJAHTERA shows that sustainability is more than just the environment.
